This rich environment is inhabited by a huge amount of very varied tropical fauna, which consists of parakeets, parrots, macaws, toucans, capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, alligators, water snakes, and the most diverse variety of fish, including piranhas.

Located in the coast of the Atlantic, a lot of it is located under the sea level, protected by dykes. The city was founded by the French in 1781 and developed by the Dutch, who drained its swampy terrain with a channel system. Then it was occupied by the British in 1812. Currently,
it is an administrative and commercial center with a few low-scale industries that produce beer, non-alcoholic beverages, and wood products. The city extends in the riverbank of the Demerara River and it's surrounded by the sea. It stands out due to its colonial architecture. City tour visiting the most important buildings, among the most unique, are the Town Hall, the Cathedral (which is made of wood and is one of the tallest buildings in the world), and the story of the cathedral is told in the interior on tablets and memorials.
Victoria Law Courts and the State House. We will make a stop in Stabroek Market, a place where you can buy anything, from household goods to fresh meat and vegetables, or fresh fruits. Its clock tower can be seen from miles around and is a famous landmark in Guyana.

Kaieteur is created as the Potaro River makes a sheer drop of 228 meters, nearly five times the height of Niagara. The spectacle is the more impressive for its remoteness, and it is altogether possible that we’ll be the only people viewing it.
Here we will hope to find White-chinned and White-tipped Swifts swirling over the gorge, and perhaps we’ll be lucky enough to see the astonishingly colorful Guiana Cock-of-the-Rock close by.
